PCMan File Manager ( PCManFM ) is a file manager that can be used as a lightweight and fast replacement for e.g. B. Nautilus or Konqueror is intended. It pursues the objective of being a usable file manager, but no longer, and follows Freedesktop.org standards. It is developed in C , and GTK + 2 is used for the user interface . The program is part of the LXDE desktop environment , started by the same author , in which it is also responsible for certain elements of the work area such as the virtual trash can. PCManFM continues to belong to package inventory of Debian -based Linux distributions and is for example in Lubuntu default file manager.

Its features include with thumbnails for images, desktop - icons , tabbed browsing , experimental Inotify -support and support for the gvfs (gvfs) many features that are rare not only for being deliberate as lean program. In addition to the “Locations” column view , PCManFM offers a tree view of the directory structure (“ tree view ”).

history

PCManFM was released in 2006 as the first component of the LXDE desktop environment . In 2010 PCManFM was rewritten from scratch for the upcoming 1.0 release (PCManFM2, versions ≥0.9). These versions include support for the Gnome Virtual File System .
