PERKEO database

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PERKEO database is a central comparison database for the identification of known child pornographic content , which is maintained by the Federal Criminal Police Office . The Backronym PERKEO stands for " P rogram for E rkennung R elevanter K inthe pornographic E indeutiger O entire exhibition".

Mode of action

The PERKEO database works in a similar way to a virus scanner in that it creates a digital fingerprint of each file based on its hash value and compares this with the entries in the comparison database. If they match, the locations (directories) and the file names are documented in a text file. The comparison database is constantly being expanded to include current fingerprints by the Central Office for Child Pornography in the Federal Criminal Police Office in cooperation with the State Criminal Police Offices. Sources are in particular the files with child pornographic content seized by law enforcement authorities nationwide from private individuals, universities, providers or companies. Known criminal content can be clearly identified using the hash values. Even minimal changes to the files mean that they can no longer be recognized using the PERKEO data.

The company Autem from Emden advertised with a "PERKEO ++" data scanner, which was recently not available "due to special circumstances".
