The association PRS PET Recycling Switzerland is in Switzerland for the widespread separate collection of disposable PET beverage bottles responsible. The club connected as an industry organization around 98 percent of Swiss beverage producers, importers, bottlers and retailers as a member.

recycling

The association operates a collection point network with more than 50,000 collection points throughout Switzerland. While a good 9,000 locations are located directly at the sales outlets , the voluntary collection points from the work and leisure sector make up by far the largest proportion with over 41,000 locations. In 2018, the recycling rate for a consumption of over 1.3 billion PET beverage bottles or 38,294 tons was 82 percent (see also bottle deposit # recycling rate ).

financing

The return of used PET non-returnable beverage bottles to the economic cycle is financed by an advance recycling fee that has been levied by PET-Recycling Switzerland since 1991. The funds raised are used for sorting, transport, administration, communication and the acquisition and maintenance of collection bins. Profit or control goals are not pursued here.

As of July 1, 2016, the following billing rates will apply to non-returnable PET beverage bottles:

PET non-returnable beverage bottles ≤ 50cl filling volume: 2.3 cents

PET non-returnable beverage bottles> 50cl filling volume: 1.9 cents

In July 2000 the ARR was still 4 cents.

Legal bases

The legal basis is the Ordinance on Beverage Packaging (VGV) issued by the Federal Council on July 5, 2000, which regulates “the return and return of beverage packaging for domestic use”.

Accordingly, dealers, manufacturers and importers who dispense beverages in non-returnable PET packaging must take back such non-returnable packaging in all sales outlets. The recycling rate should be at least 75 percent. If this is not achieved, the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) can introduce a deposit on PET beverage packaging.

The Federal Office for the Environment commissions a private, not-for-profit organization to ensure recycling .
