Precise Participant Location and Identification ( PPLI ; German Exact Participant Location and Identification ) is one of the central data formats in the Link 16 communication standard . In addition to the secure identification of network participants, the PPLI message is an essential basis of the MIDS / JTIDS service relative navigation .

Relative navigation

In the PPLI, all Link 16 network participants report, among other things, their geodetic position, their measurement accuracy (location, altitude and time) and other additional information on their network status.

Since all network participants synchronize themselves beforehand on a common time base and the location of the participants - often determined with GPS - is published in the PPLI, other participants who have less precise navigation can connect based on the runtime measurement of the Link 16 signal Determine your own position using the known locations of the other transmitting stations (relative navigation).

For a precise measurement of one's own geodetic position using relative navigation, at least three precise PPLIs are required, for an exact position determination in space four.
