PSS steering

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PSS-steering or Progressive Safety Steering (German: Progressive safety steering system ) is a mechanical rack and pinion steering , as opposed to conventional rack and pinion steering with a differently shaped pinion , a differently shaped rack has been designed and low friction straight toothing.

PSS steering, function

All other components and construction principles correspond to those of conventional rack and pinion steering. This pinion gear rack guide makes it possible to make the dependence of the steering ratio of the steering angle (progression) as desired, while maintaining a high efficiency of the steering .

Steering behavior

PSS steering, process

Test drivers report a good steering feel and a short adaptation time. As expected, the gain in safety and comfort is highest at normal and low speeds. In driving tests on the sling plate (87% instead of the normal 60%), the vehicle was caught by all drivers without any problems. The handling of a vehicle with PSS steering improves the slower the vehicle moves, as the direct steering transmission increases. The PSS steering prevents skidding before the ESP has to intervene and allows the driver better control of his vehicle during abrupt driving maneuvers. Less experienced drivers have a better command of the vehicle, as the steering wheel position allows conclusions to be drawn very well about the wheel angle. In addition, the steering speed is well adapted to the corresponding driving requirements.
