Padmapani ( Skt. Padmapani; "holder of the lotus ", Chinese  蓮華手菩薩 , Pinyin Liánhuāshǒu Pusa or 波頭摩巴尼 , Bōtóumóbāní ; Tib. : Phyag na pad mo ) is one of the eight major bodhisattvas of Mahayana - Buddhism . He is a manifestation of Avalokiteshvara , the bodhisattva of compassion.

presentation

Characteristic for the iconography of this Bodhisattva is the representation in the so-called three fraction (the body axis is broken into three partial axes in the standing form). However, he usually appears in two-armed form together with the Bodhisattva Vajrapani at the side of Buddha Amitabha in the Pure Land of Dewachen and belongs to the Padma (lotus) Buddha family.

In Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama is the embodiment of Avalokitesvara-Padmapani.
