Pah Tum is played on a board with 7 × 7 fields. One player places white pieces on the board, the other black pieces. At the beginning of the game, an uneven number of fields is blocked, which is usually done by a random generator . The players take turns placing one stone each on a free, non-blocked space, white begins.

The game ends when there is no more empty space. The players then get points for the horizontal and vertical rows which they have formed from their own stones and which are not interrupted by opposing stones or blocked fields. Diagonal rows do not count. The rows are allowed to cross, i.e. H. a stone can be part of a horizontal and vertical row at the same time. For each player the points he receives for his rows are added up. The player with the higher number of points wins, in the event of a tie the game is a tie.

The number of points for a row depends on its length:

  • 1 or 2 stones: no point
  • 3 stones: 3 points
  • 4 stones: 10 points
  • 5 stones: 25 points
  • 6 stones: 56 points
  • 7 stones: 119 points

These points are obtained if you give as many points for a row of at least three stones as there are stones in the row, and also score the two rows that are one shorter. A row of five is worth five points, and the rows of four it contains ten each, for a total of 25 points.

Mathematically represented: the number of points for a series of length is calculated as:
