Parcel handle
A packet carrying handle or short packet handle , also known as package Knebel , is a reusable packaging aids that carrying heavy, with twine facilitates tied packages.
In its classic form, the package handle consists of a piece of round wood about 15 mm in diameter and 10 cm in length, which is drilled through lengthways, as well as an iron wire about 1.5 mm thick inserted through the hole and angled on both sides is curved so that it can be easily hung into the string of the package. (To protect against injuries, the wire ends are usually not exposed upwards, but are bent back; the handle ends are also beveled .) The wooden handle is sometimes provided with an advertising print.
This design was later partly replaced by a one-piece construction made of pressed plastic, which is cheaper to produce, but is less comfortable to carry due to its thinner handle.
Since parcels are increasingly sealed with adhesive tape instead of string , the practical importance of parcel handles has declined significantly.
