The headquarters of the Palestinian Boy Scouts is located in Ramallah  in the West Bank . The PSA is interfaith , the association has over 18,000 Christian and Muslim members.

On February 27, 2016, the Palestinian Scout Association received full voting rights in the World Scout Organization (WOSM). He became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 2017 .

history

With the emergence of worldwide scouting, Arab scout groups also emerged in Palestine . At St. George's School in Jerusalem in 1912 began Scouting. Palestinian scouts participated in the third World Scout Jamboree in Arrowe Park near Birkenhead in 1929 and in the fourth World Scout Jamboree near Budapest in 1933. In 1936, Palestinian scouts were persecuted by forces in the British Mandate during the Qassam uprising.

The PSA was officially recognized as a member of the World Scout Organization in 1945. In the course of the establishment of the state of Israel the association lost the membership criterion in 1948, that it should be assigned to an association to a state and was therefore no longer part of the WOSM.

In 2016, the status of the Palestinian Autonomous Territories was determined by the WOSM through a resolution comparable to that of a sovereign state. This enabled the PSA to be re-included in the WOSM 2016 and the WAGGGS 2017.

The PSA was charged with glorifying anti-Israeli terror after it became known that a local chapter had named an event after a Palestinian assassin.

job

The association is organized into four regions:

  • West Bank Region (120 local groups)
  • Jerusalem Region (30 local groups)
  • Gaza Region (30 local groups)
  • Lebanese region (30 local groups in Lebanon ).

The Syrian region was disbanded because of the civil war in the country .
