The Palacete Ribeiro da Cunha is a city palace in the center of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon .

history

It was built in 1877 according to plans by the architect Henrique Carlos Afonso on the north side of the Praça do Príncipe Real . The client was the tobacco dealer José Ribeiro da Cunha , who came from Minho . The pseudo-Moorish building is opulently decorated with oriental ornaments. There is also a 3000 m² garden.

In 1901 the palace was sold to the Seixas family, who lived there for two decades. In 1920 the doctor Manuel Caroça bought the building and left it to his daughter and heiress. Through marriage, the house came into the possession of the doctor Lopo de Carvalho. In 1980 the Universidade Nova de Lisboa took over part of the administration building, but the family stayed on the top floor until the mid-1990s. After years of vacancy, the building is to be converted into a luxury hotel.
