Bulgarian palamarki

A palamarka ( Bulgarian Паламарка ) is a Bulgarian device that was used in the harvesting of grain . The wooden glove for the outer three fingers of the left hand was used together with a sickle when harvesting the grain . The grain was held at the top between palamarka and thumb in order to cut off the ears with a sickle below. At one end, the palamarka tapers to a hook that is usually about 10 centimeters long. With the help of the hook, more grain could be cut at once and immediately tied into a bundle. In addition, the palamarka served as protection, as the sickle was usually placed directly under the hand.

A similar device, the Zoqueta , was used in Spain . The Zoqueta, however, has a smaller hook and was held with four fingers.
