Palazzo dei Priori

The Palazzo dei Priori ( Umbria ) is a palace in Perugia . The Priors Palace contains a number of interesting rooms and rooms. The building was constructed mainly from local travertine and white and red stone from neighboring Bettona until the 16th century .

The assembly hall of the city leaders ('Sala dei Priori' and 'Sala dei Notari') from 1293 has a very unusual shape with its eight candle arches . Candle arches are overhanging arches that are perpendicular to the main direction of a room and stabilize the two opposite walls against each other.

The trade college ('Collegio della Mercanzia') from the 15th century has wooden paneling on the walls and ceiling, which is unusual for Italy. Such equipment is normally only known from the northern, colder countries.

The audience hall ('Sala dell' Udienza ') of the Currency Exchange College (' Collegio del Cambio ') is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved secular interiors and dates from 1452. It is located in the western part of the palace. In the Middle Ages, a large trading city like Perugia had a way of exchanging the various currencies that met here. The wall and ceiling paintings from 1496–1500 come from Perugino and possibly even from his pupil Raphael at the time .
