Panalpina is a Swiss transport and logistics service provider . The group of companies has 500 branches in 80 countries and works closely with partner companies in another 80 countries.
The company goes back to a Rhine shipping company from 1935, which was founded by Hans im Obersteg in 1895.
Panalpina has been listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange under the symbol PWTN since September 2005 ; the largest single shareholder is the Ernst Göhner Foundation , based in Zug, which has held 45.94% of the share capital since at least 2012 (as of October 26, 2018).
In January 2019, the Danish DSV A / S announced that it was interested in a takeover of Panalpina for an amount of around 4 billion Swiss francs (3.6 billion euros). After the Ernst Göhner Foundation initially resisted, the takeover was announced on April 1, 2019 at a price of 4.6 billion Swiss francs.
