Papanui High School (PHS) is an internationally oriented secondary school (years 9–13) in Papanui, a suburb of Christchurch , New Zealand .
history
The school was founded as Papanui Technical College in 1936, was converted into a high school in 1949 . Since around 2000 the school's public reputation has improved. In the past, fewer students passed the NZQA standard and attended university than the national average. In 2006, 66% of 11th graders achieved NCEA Level 1. That number rose to 70% in 2007 and 75% in 2008. Also the success in the NCEA level 2 has reached national standard.
Multiculturalism
Asian, Maori and other cultures are cultivated at the school. The school also accepts foreign students from Asia and Germany for a quarter to a full year. At Papanui Highschool there is also a separate office for these students, which is occupied during the entire school period.
successes
- In 2007, both the boys 'and girls' senior touch teams qualified for the national competition.
- The school also successfully entered the IYPT, a national physics competition, with a 3rd place.
