Former Rosenheim paper goods factory

The former paper goods factory Rosenheim is a monument in the independent city of Rosenheim (Upper Bavaria), Brückenstraße 1.

building

The two-storey facility was built in reinforced concrete in 1911/12 according to plans by David Schray. It consists of an evenly windowed hall wing on a raised basement, which is flanked by administrative and functional rooms in asymmetrically designed head buildings with cross-pitched gable roofs. A two-story office extension was added to the south-east in 1929.

history

In 1879, the first production facility of the Niedermayr company was a paper bag factory in Hafnerstrasse. Michael Niedermayr was the founder. 13 years later (1892) the factory was expanded. Another building was added to Hafnerstrasse in the former Promenadenstrasse (today: Prinzregentenstrasse). Niedermayr's son Robert Niedermayr took over the company in 1907. In 1911/12 he had another industrial building built in Brückenstrasse. The company was converted into a public company in the 1920s. At that time it had several branches, with the headquarters in Rosenheim producing cement sacks. A printing shop for labeling paper bags was affiliated. Due to the favorable economic situation - in 1931 the weekly production was 15-20 million bags, pouches and cigar tips - an office extension was built in 1929 on the left gable of the building in Rosenheimer Brückenstraße. Another workshop was added in 1938.

After 123 years, Niedermayr was sold to Kornäs GmbH in Achern in 2002 and production was discontinued in the same year. The remaining 70 employees lost their jobs. The building has been a listed building since 2007 and currently houses a carpenter's workshop on the ground floor.
