Par force!

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Par force! is a Schnellpolka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 308). The work was performed for the first time on February 8, 1866 in the Redouten Hall of the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The polka was written for Mardi Gras in 1866 and premiered on the occasion of a charity event, the so-called blind ball in the Vienna Hofburg. In view of the large number of compositions by the three Strauss brothers that year, little attention was paid to this work. It was later somewhat forgotten and rarely performed, if at all. This was also due to the fact that the composer's many compositions sometimes displaced each other from the concert schedule. There was simply an oversupply of such works. Strauss later used a motif from this polka in the couplet War Adventure by Koloman Zsupan in the third act of the operetta Der Zigeunerbaron .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 35 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
