Praeteritio

A praeteritio (also preterition , Latin praeterire , to pass over, to leave out ') or paralipse (also paralipsis , Greek  παράλειψις paraleipsis , to omit') is a rhetorical figure in which one pretends to want to pass over a topic (a thought, an object), But it is mentioned and so particularly emphasized by this announcement.

  • "Mind you, I don't want to say that ..., but ..."
  • "This is certainly not the place to point out that ..."
