The park is now public with old trees

The Parco Savorgnan (also Giardini Savorgnan ) is a public park in the Venetian district ( sestiere ) Cannaregio with a size of about 9500 m². It originally belonged to the neighboring Palazzo Savorgnan, the residence of the Venetian noble family of the same name, which is now used for school purposes. The old and partly exotic plant population was previously protected by temporary glass houses. Today the park is owned by the municipality and the province of Venice and also includes the green space belonging to Palazzo Manfrin. It is one of the rare inner-city green spaces in the lagoon city and is mainly used for recreational purposes. Remnants of the old garden decoration, for example a pavilion, have been preserved.

history

The green area was originally designed by the architect Giusepe Sardi (1624–1699) in connection with the construction of the Palazzo Savorgnan, but it was changed several times, including by the theater architect Pietro Chezia . The current state essentially corresponds to the redesign of 1826 in the style of an "English garden" by the owner at the time, Francesco Galvagna.
