Under the name Parkstadt Hietzing, there is a large residential building project in Vienna that will replace the former Lainz care home and preserve its listed building.

Project

According to the plans at hand, the Geriatric Center Am Wienerwald in Lainz will be relocated by 2015 and from then on will be redesigned into an "urban, modern residential location in the middle of the countryside". For this purpose, the Wiener Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft (WSE), on behalf of the Vienna Hospital Association (KAV), announced an urban planning and architectural competition for the 25 hectare area, which was won by the Veit Aschenbrenner office at the end of October 2009.

Monument protection and the existing green space between the pavilions are taken into account, it is said, "gentle handling of the old building, contemporary adaptations and additions corresponding to the ensemble character" are guaranteed. High-quality living, areas for local supply, social infrastructure and culture are planned as a mix of uses. At most, a hotel is also considered.
