Parti Démocratique de Côte d'Ivoire

The Parti Démocratique de Côte d'Ivoire ( PDCI , German  Democratic Party of the Ivory Coast ) is a party of the Ivory Coast .

It was founded on April 9, 1946 and was a member of the Rassemblement Démocratique Africain . In terms of her profile, she is moderately conservative and belongs to the center-right.

history

After the Ivory Coast gained independence, it was the country's unity party from 1960 to 1990 under its chairman Félix Houphouët-Boigny . After the first pluralistic election in 1990, the party initially remained in power. In 1993 Houphouët-Boigny died and Henri Konan Bédié was his successor. After a heated election campaign and numerous legal disputes, it finally lost its supremacy as a result of the military coup led by General Robert Guéï .

From the parliamentary elections in 2000, the PDCI emerged as the strongest party with 94 parliamentary seats.
