Partido Comunista Obrero Español (1973)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Partido Comunista Obrero Español (German: Spanish Communist Workers' Party), PCOE, is a communist party in Spain . It was founded in 1973 by Enrique Líster (1907-1994), who had previously resigned from the Spanish Communist Party ( Partido Comunista de España , PCE), to which he returned in 1986, however.

history

The split in the PCE occurred as a result of the reform policy, also known as Eurocommunism , of the party leadership under Santiago Carrillo (1915–2012). Lister's position, which advocated Soviet intervention in Czechoslovakia in 1968, only resonated with a minority of PCE members. The PCOE was legalized on October 31, 1977, coinciding with the issuance of Enrique Lister's passport for his return from Moscow. In the elections that followed, the PCOE was unable to win a seat in parliament. In Catalonia , the PCOE is associated with the Communist Workers' Party of Catalonia (PCOC, Catalan: Partit Comunista Obrer de Catalunya ).

In April 1986 a minority of PCOE members, led by Secretary General Enrique Lister, returned to the PCE after Santiago Carrillo was expelled from the PCE.

Current situation

The Partido Comunista Obrero Español has cells in Madrid , Catalonia, Andalusia , Galicia , Castile , Aragon and Extremadura . In the national elections in 2015 and 2016 , it only nominated candidates in two provinces and received fewer than 2,000 votes in both ballots (0.01% at the state level).
