Passive solar energy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When using what is known as passive solar energy , the heat produced by the sun is used to heat buildings. The rays of the sun enter the building through windows and heat the interior of the building. This principle is mainly used in passive houses .

The greatest application potential lies in the new construction sector. An optimally designed passive solar house can - measured on average over the year - have up to 75% lower heat demand than a standard new building. In addition to regulations for the passive use of solar energy, various other construction aspects such as air density, heat recovery from ventilation air, insulation of the building envelope, construction type and shape play a role. In order to prevent possible overheating, sunshades on the outside, roof, alignment, the proportion of glass on the building surface and the total building mass are also important.
