The Pasternack Big Band was created in 1989 under the name Ostsee Big Band as a music school big band of the Rostock Conservatory " Rudolf Wagner-Régeny ".

To give his students practical experience, the saxophonist Günter Kaiser founded the Big Band; he initially put teachers and students of the popular music sections of the Rudolf Wagner-Régeny Conservatory in the big band. The lecturers Olaf Scheffler (drums) and Andreas Jessat (double bass & electric bass), as well as the former student of the conservatory Anke Dittert (trumpet) are still among the band's regular players. Other students left the big band after completing their music school education. In order to close the resulting gaps, not only interested students but also professional musicians from dance and entertainment music as well as from the Rostock Volkstheater were hired . This increased the professionalism of the band.

In 1994 Andreas Jessat brought saxophonist Andreas Pasternack into the big band. At the request of Günter Kaiser, he took over the management in 1999. Thanks to his personal commitment and the enthusiasm of the musicians, the Ostsee Big Band was able to enjoy successful concerts with TV appearances, CD recordings and, which of course comes first for a big band, many live performances in jazz clubs with well-known guests such as B. Uschi Brüning , Bill Ramsey , Günther Fischer and Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky realize. Since 2007 the formation has performed as the Pasternack Big Band . In the same year Andreas Pasternack received the culture award of the Hanseatic City of Rostock .

The Pasternack Big Band is present at events such as the Baltic Sea Jazz , the annual Jazz Band Ball or the Seesternpokal - an international dance tournament in a class of its own. For almost 25 years now, the Pasternack Big Band has been performing regularly once a month at the Big Band Night in Rostocker Ursprung .
