Paradeisl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Paradeisl fulfills the same task as an Advent wreath. Four candles decorate it and every Sunday in Advent another candle is lit.

The Paradeisl , also called Paradeiser or Paradeiserl , is the old Bavarian-Austrian forerunner of the Advent wreath . Traditionally it consists of four red apples, which are connected to a triangular pyramid with sticks that are mostly painted or carved. There is a candle on each apple. Usually three red candles and one pink candle (in the underground floor) are used, three purple and one pink candle are also used in the landscape. Every Sunday one of the candles is lit, on the third Sunday in Advent the pink candle, matching the liturgical color of Sunday Gaudete ( Latin : “Rejoice”). On the fourth Sunday in Advent, the candle lights up on the top of the pyramid. The tomato is often on a plate decorated with Christmas cookies, nuts or apples.
