Paul Vixie

Paul Vixie is the author of numerous RFCs and well-known UNIX system programs such as B. SENDS, proxynet, rtty and Vixie cron .

Life

He attended George Washington High School in San Francisco , California . As a DEC employee , he began working on BIND in 1988 and became the lead author of Version 8 (1997).

He left DEC in 1994 and founded the non-profit Internet Software Consortium (ISC) with Rick Adams and Carl Malamud to advance the development of BIND and develop other software for the Internet . In 2004 the company was renamed the Internet Systems Consortium.

In 1995 he and others founded Palo Alto Internet Exchange (PAIX), which was bought by Metromedia Fiber Network (MFN) in 1999 . He became Chief Technology Officer of MFN and eventually President of PAIX.

In 1998 he and others founded the Californian non-profit organization Mail Abuse Prevention System (MAPS), the aim of which is to stop e-mail spam . At the same time, he also runs his own consultancy, Vixie Enterprises .

Together with Frederick Avolio, he wrote the book Sendmail : Theory and Practice, which is well known among experts . Paul Vixie also holds the record for "most CERT advisories due to a single author".

Paul Vixie supported the Open Root Server Network with the operation of the L server from September 2005 until it was shut down at the end of 2008.
