Pell Grant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pell Grant Program is a federal education grant program of the US Department of Education . It is intended to enable applicants classified as “needy” to study (usually very expensive in the USA). It was named after US Senator Claiborne Pell and was originally called the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant Program. The granting of the aid is based on very strict criteria, the so-called “financial need” formula.

The maximum funding is currently $ 4,310 per year, by 2012 it should increase to $ 5,400. As a rule, this amount is far from sufficient to finance a degree. Only around a third of the tuition fees incurred at public universities can be covered by this.
