The Percival Prince was a light transport aircraft of the early post-war period of the British manufacturer Percival Aircraft Co .
History and construction
The aircraft was designed as a cantilever twin-engine high-wing aircraft and was clad with metal. It also had a fully retractable three-point landing gear with a nose wheel. The construction was based on the Percival Merganser. Further developments of the type were the survey aircraft Survey Prince and the Sea Prince . An improved version of the Prince 3 with a larger wingspan and more powerful propulsion and landing gear modifications was built for the Royal Air Force as Percival Pembroke .
The Sea Prince were land aircraft and not suitable for use on aircraft carriers. They were used in two roles: in the T.Mk.1 version it served as a navigation and submarine fighter training aircraft and as a C.Mk. 1 and 2 as transporters. The machines were operated from 1954 to 1972 - as a navigation trainer until 1978 - then they were replaced by the Handley Page Jetstream .
The Prince was also produced in six versions for the civilian market.
