As effect paint is called a coating , the effect pigments contains. Effect paints are characterized by the fact that their appearance changes depending on the viewing angle. In 2000 around 70% of automobiles were manufactured with effect paints, which means a steady increase since 1990 (50%).

Classification

Colloquially as well as in color sample cards from paint processors (e.g. automobile manufacturers), the effect paints are sometimes further subdivided into metallic paints , pearl effect paints and interference paints . The background to this subdivision is the visual appearance (metallic glitter, paints with a lightness or shade flop), which is determined by the type of effect pigments contained. However, this subdivision is not exact, since most effect paints contain more than one type of effect pigment.
