Perloja

Perloja is a village with 744 inhabitants in the Varėna district , Lithuania , on the A4 highway on the right bank of the Merky River . To the south of Perloja lies the Varėna Forest, and Lake Lavysas is 5 km away. Since 1930 there is a Catholic Church Perloja , a Vytautas monument (8.3 meters tall; author Petras Tarabilda ), a school, a cultural center, library, post office (LT-65039), medicine point. Perloja was mentioned in a document in 1378 and was an independent republic from 1918 to 1923. Perloja has had its own coat of arms since 1993 .
