The Persian-language Wikipedia ( Persian ویکیپدیا ، دانشنامهٔ آزاد Wikipedia, Dānešnāmaye āzād , 'Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia') is a Wikipedia in Persian . It was founded in December 2003. On December 16, 2004, it reached 1,000 articles. As of July 28, 2016, it had 500,000 items. This makes it the largest language version in the Middle East .
The Persian-language Wikipedia is censored by the Iranian government.

The Persian Wikipedians come partly from Iran (45%), partly from Europe (30%) and North America (25%).
