Perugia Calcio a 5 is an Italian futsal club based in Perugia . The team became Italian champions in 2005.

Club history

Founded in 1996, the team made it to the second highest Italian division, the A2 series, in 2001. There, the team owners and players succeeded Ricardo Gaucci the walkover in the series A. In regular time the 2003-04 season was sixth Perugia, in the play-off, they rose again and reached the final in which they Arzignano Grifo with 3: 7 and 4: 8 lost. In the following season Perugia reached the final again, opponent was Lottomatica Rome. Gaucci's team won the first game 3-1. Five days later, Lottomatica won 5-4 in Rome, and the 2005 Italian championship had to decide a third game. In this all-important encounter, Lottomatica led 3-0 at halftime. In the half-time break, Gaucci dismissed coach Massimo Ronconi after a dispute, who then watched the game from the stands. Perugia equalized, even after extra time it was a draw, so penalties had to decide the winner and Perugia eventually brought the title win.

The 2005/06 season was less fortunate. In the UEFA Futsal Cup , the team failed at the Spanish Interviú Boomerang , Ricardo Gaucci , hostile for the bankruptcy of the football club AC Perugia , of which he was vice-president, left the club. This narrowly escaped the play-out.
