The Petea Range is a small mountain range in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Petea Range is located at the northwest end of the Canterbury Plains and is directly adjacent to the Moorhouse Range on its west side , whereas the north, east and south sides of the range are surrounded by flat land. About 2 to 3 km away, the South Branch Ashburton River flows north and northeast past the Petea Range and in the southwest rises the Hinds River South Branch , which runs south by the foothills of the mountain range.
The mountain range, which is around 7 km long and runs in north-south direction, has a maximum height of 1065 m .
Administratively, the Moorhouse Range belongs to the Ashburton District .
