The Moorhouse Range is a mountain range in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Moorhouse Range is at the northwest end of the Canterbury Plains between the Harper Range and Tara Haoa Range in the southwest, the Clent Hills in the north and the Petea Range in the southeast. To the west of the northern end of the Moorhouse Range lies the partly swampy plains of Lake Emma and Lake Roundabout and between the Harper Range and the Moorhouse Range the Pudding Valley separates the two mountain ranges. To the southern end of the Moorhouse Range , the Rangitata River flows through the gorge of the Rangitata Gorge , which separates the Moorhouse Range from the up to 872 m high Waikari Hills and the Petea Range behind .
The mountain range, which is around 15 km long and runs in a north-northwest-south-southeast direction, finds its highest point at 1378 m high Mount Tripp .
Administratively, the Moorhouse Range belongs to the Ashburton District .
