The Harper Range is a mountain range in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Harper Range is located approximately eight miles south-southeast of the confluence of the Havelock and Clyde Rivers to form the Rangitata River , which flows west to south past the Harper Range . To the west of the mountain range on the opposite side of the Rangitata River border the Sinclair Range and the Brabazon Range , in the southwest the Ben McLeod Range , in the south the Tara Haoa Range and in the east the Moorhouse Range . To the northeast of the Harper Range , the partly swampy plain of the lakes Lake Clearwater , Lake Camp , Lake Emma and Lake Roundabout extends and in the north the Potts River separates the Harper Range from the Potts Range .
The mountain range, which is around 22 km long and runs in a north-west-south-east direction, has its highest point at 1829 m high Mount Harper .
Administratively, the Harper Range belongs to the Ashburton District .
