geography

The Havelock River is a glacial river that is formed by outflow at the end of the Havelock Glacier . Its south-south-east course is accompanied by the mountain ranges of the Two Thumb Range in the west and the Cloudy Peak Range in the east. Only around 4 km after its formation, the valley of the river widens increasingly to a maximum of just under 2 km and allows the river to flow into the valley in numerous, constantly changing arms. After a total of 26 km, the Havelock River forms the Rangitata River through its confluence with the Clyde River . In addition to numerous creeks and streams , the Forbes River is the only tributary of the Havelock River .

Hunting area

North, west and southwest of the Havelock River is the nearly 250 km² designated hunting area, which is known as the Havelock hunting block . Chamois, red deer and tahrs can be hunted there.
