The Ben McLeod Range is a mountain range in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Ben McLeod Range is located west of the Rangitata River and east of the Two Thumb Range . The approximately 20 km long mountain range, which runs to the east in a right curve, continues northeast of the Sherwood Range and ends in the valley of the Rangitata River . To the north, the plain of the Butler Downs borders with the northwest lying Sinclair Range .
The peaks of the Ben McLeod Range all but the southernmost peak, which has a height of 2001 m , do not exceed 2000 m . The mountain range is named after the Ben McLeod summit , at an altitude of 1926 m . Only the Hewson River rises as a notable body of water on one of the eastern flanks of the mountains.
Administratively, the Ben McLeod Range is part of the Timaru District .
Conservation Park
A small southwestern part of the Ben McLeod Range counts together with the ridge Walkers Spur and the area around the Spurs Hut to the Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park , which is administered by the Department of Conservation .
