Peter and Paul Church (Moscow)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul ( Russian Храм святых апостолов Петра и Павла ) was a classicist church in central Moscow and the main church of the Polish Catholic Peter and Paul Congregation .

The church was built between 1839 and 1845 based on a design by Alessandro Gilardi .

In 1938 (according to other sources already in the 1920s) the church was closed and in 1940 it was converted into a cinema. In 1946 the cinema gave way to the research institute "GiproUgleMasch", which is still located in the building today. The many renovations have changed the former church beyond recognition.

Individual evidence

  1. 1938 is named as the year of the closing of the Church of Peter and Paul in the history of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on ProCatholic.ru (Russian); the Russian-language Wikipedia, on the other hand, speaks of a closure as early as the 1920s.
