Peter Paul MacSwiney

Peter Paul MacSwiney († February 27, 1884 ) was an Irish businessman and politician.

MacSwiney was a director of MacSwiney, Delany & Co. , a Dublin-based textile company. During his lifetime he played a very active political role. Among other things, he was a member of the City Council of Dublin and held the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1864 and again in 1875 . He rejected Isaac Butt's Home Rule policy and saw in Charles Gavan Duffy the legitimate political heir to Daniel O'Connell .

MacSwiney was Grand Cross Knight of the Order of Gregory and Chevalier of the Legion of Honor . He died on February 27, 1884 and was buried on March 1 in Glasnevin Cemetery .
