Peter Vang Petersen

Peter Vang Petersen (born June 11, 1952 in Sakskøbing ) is a Danish prehistoric scientist . He is a curator at the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen .

Life

After his master's examination in 1979 with an analysis of the chronological and regional development within the Kongemose culture and Ertebølle culture at the University of Copenhagen , Petersen was a research assistant at the Institute for Prehistoric Archeology at the University of Copenhagen from 1981 to 1983. In 1983 Petersen became a curator at the National Museum.

There he is responsible for the finds from the Late Paleolithic and the Mesolithic . As a museum archaeologist , Petersen deals with research mediation. He designed various sections of the pre-history exhibition in the National Museum, which opened in 2008. In addition to monographs on flint artifacts and gold treasures, Petersen has written essays on Mesolithic art, the hunt for moose in water and the importance of animal and bird representations in pre-Christian mythology and the Iron Age .

In 1986 he took over the office of secretary for the Royal Society of Nordic Antiquities . Petersen is also the director of studies for the Prehistoric Archeology Department at the People's University in Copenhagen.
