Petersberg tasks

The Petersberg tasks were set at the end of June 1992 at the summit of the Council of Ministers of the Western European Union (WEU). They should initially be carried out and covered by the defense component of the WEU

  1. humanitarian tasks,
  2. Rescue operations,
  3. peacekeeping duties as well
  4. Combat operations in crisis management including peacemaking measures ( Treaty of Amsterdam , Art. J.7, No. 2).

These tasks were later transferred to the European Security and Defense Policy of the European Union , as did most of the components of the WEU.

The tasks are named after the venue, the guest house of the Federal Republic of Germany on the Petersberg .
