from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under a Pfeifenusur (also: pipe hole , pipe smoker hole ) is understood in the dentistry one by abrasion caused tooth defect on teeth caused by the years of holding a tobacco pipe between the teeth of the upper and lower jaw is obtained.

Pipe fittings are round gaps in the dentition. They arose from the intensive smoking of pipes with clay mouthpieces. As a rule, four teeth in the anterior region are affected, the grinding of which forms an almost circular gap. Clay mouthpieces were used in the early days of smoking in Europe. Pipe usage can be detected on the bites of modern skeletons.
