Whistle tower
The Pfeifturm is a Gothic tower in Ingolstadt , which served as a municipal watchtower . It is located on Moritzstrasse, right next to the Moritzkirche .
The 63 m high building from the 14th century is first mentioned in 1497, with the roof dome being added in 1720. The name comes from the whistle of the watchman back, who lived in the Pfeifturm and whose job was to report fires and hazards in the urban area. The office of tower keeper was abolished in Ingolstadt on March 1, 1938, after fire alarms had been introduced in the city . 201 steps lead to the viewing platform at a height of 45 m, which can be viewed after the extensive renovation of the whistling tower in 2006. In addition, the whistle tower is used by the so-called whistle tower blowers, a group of wind instruments who play on the whistle tower every two weeks and blow in the New Year on New Year's Eve .
