Post shoes (also post supports, post anchors, support foot, support base, column support ) are an aid to constructive wood protection in timber construction .

They are used as a pressure-proof and tensile-proof connection between the foundation and the wooden beam. Post bases are available in various designs. Basically, the different models can be divided into "can be set in concrete" and "dowelled". Regardless of the design, a post base ensures the necessary ventilation of construction timber and prevents permanent waterlogging at the foot of the timber due to soil, snow or draining water. In this way, it ensures constructive wood protection that significantly delays the rotting of the component even without the use of “chemical” wood preservatives.

Support feet are divided into service classes depending on their resistance to environmental influences (service class 1–3, see also: strength ).

An alternative to the classic post base are screw anchors and drop-in ground sleeves.

Typical areas of application are the construction of:

  • Carports
  • Wooden frame
  • Terraces
  • Garden shed
