pg (Unix)

pg ( /usr/bin/pg) is a filter program that exists in many UNIX derivatives as well as various UNIX-like systems and with which data streams can be displayed as paginated.

In its function it is similar to more , but in contrast to it was not included in the POSIX definition, although it was included in the original AT&T UNIX and in systems derived from this codebase (e.g. AIX , HP-UX , Solaris ) also still is.

When the POSIX standard was developed, there were requests for less, moreand pg. pgwas prevalent mainly in AT&T derived systems, lessmainly those systems derived from the Berkeley line BSD . However, it was present moreon all of these systems, which is why this was selected for the standard.
