The Phönix-Bad Ottobrunn is a leisure and wellness bath in Ottobrunn near Munich. It was rebuilt from 1997 to 1999 after a fire.

History of origin

As part of the major project to establish the Ottobrunn sports park, the foundation stone was laid for the indoor swimming pool in 1974 on the former site of the Heinrich gravel and crushing plant. In 1979 the opening took place under the name "Swimming Pool Ottobrunn". The facility consisted only of a diving pool and a swimming pool, a small sauna facility and a catering area. After a smoldering fire in the restaurant, the swimming pool burned out almost completely in 1996 and remained closed for the next three years. In March 1997 the Ottobrunn municipal council decided to hand over the construction of the new facility to private hands and founded the municipal company “Sportpark Ottobrunn GmbH”. In 1998 the company commissioned the general contractor Philipp Holzmann AG with the reconstruction and decided to lease the pool after completion to Bayernbad Parks und Bäder GmbH. On May 1, 1999, the new facility opened for the first time under the current name “Phönix-Bad Ottobrunn”. Just one year after the start of operations, Bayernbad Parks und Bäder GmbH filed for bankruptcy and Sportpark Ottobrunn GmbH took over the private management of the pool. In 2008, another fire struck the Phönix-Bad, a sauna in the outdoor area and the adjoining kiosk burned down. From 2008 to 2011, the Phönix-Bad was gradually renewed in several construction phases and expanded into a wellness facility. Since the opening of the three-storey extension for sauna and spa facilities in 2010, the Phönix-Bad has offered a variety of different spa treatments on an additional 1,300 m². In 2013, further maintenance and modernization measures were carried out in the leisure pool and in the sauna area, so that the Phoenix pool was closed from June 9th to June 20th, 2013. At the end of the renovation measures, the catering area was completely renewed from June to October 2014. On October 1st, 2014, the new restaurant "Nefeli im Phönix" opened.

The Phönix-Bad is divided into four areas. While the swimming pool area ("water") is open to all ages, the "sauna" area is reserved for visitors aged 17 and over.
