Phicometer

A Phicometer is a ground-mechanical test machine with the aid of the in-situ - shear strength in the borehole can be detected.

It consists of a probe that is inserted into a borehole (62–65 mm). Using a hydraulically applied radial pressure, the probe is interlocked with the wall of the borehole, i.e. the ground, and then pulled upwards. This gives a tensile force T from which friction and cohesion are overcome, depending on the radial pressure. Analogous to the frame shear test , a value pair consisting of shear stress and normal stress is obtained . With the help of a series of experiments, Phicometer friction angle and cohesion can then be determined.
