Heinrich Ebeling

Heinrich Ebeling (born October 14, 1840 in Vorsfelde (today Wolfsburg ), † after 1913 ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher. He is particularly known for his lexical work, particularly on the authors Homer and Caesar .

Life

Ebeling studied after attending high schools in Halberstadt and Braunschweig 1859-61 Classical Philology at the University of Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1862. The next year he took up a position as senior teacher at the Estonian knight and cathedral school in Reval , where he stayed until 1870. He then left school to start a career as a stock exchange correspondent in Berlin . In 1893 he lived as a private scholar on a northern Italian lake and also stayed in Rome for a long time . After 1913 there are no reports of his whereabouts; he probably died in Italy.
