On the cathedral school building on Dom-Schulstrasse (Estonian: Toom-Kooli) a bilingual plaque commemorates the institution. Parts of the school's library are now in the Estonian Academic Library.

history

The school was founded in 1319 by order of the Danish King Erik VI. Menved founded. Until 1765 it belonged to the Reval Cathedral , but then became an academic aristocratic school of the Estonian knighthood. From 1920 it was operated as a high school under the name Domschule.

The school building, which is still preserved today, was built in 1691 and replaced a wooden building that burned down in 1684. In the 19th century the building was rebuilt in the classicism style, whereby the room layout was also changed. In 1845 the school was expanded, and classrooms were now also located in Dom-Schulstrasse 11. From 1855 there was temporarily a boarding school in the Stenbockhaus .
