Otto Moritz von Grünewaldt

Otto Moritz von Grünewaldt ( December 4, 1860 in Saint Petersburg ; † June 20, 1936 in Hapsal , Estonia ) was a German-Baltic writer and farmer .

Life

Otto Moritz von Grünewaldt spent his childhood in Saint Petersburg and was then brought up together with his cousins Adolph von Gernet and Ferdinand Wrangel on the Sellenküll estate near Oru , Estonia. Otto Moritz attended from 1876 to 1881, the Knight and Cathedral School to Reval , he studied from 1881 at the University of Tartu and occupied from 1881 to 1883, the study of economics and from 1883 to 1886, the trade law . He served as a volunteer in the Grodnos Hussar Guard Regiment in Warsaw . As an ensign in the reserve, he left the army and devoted himself to agriculture in Audern . From 1891 to 1902 he was estate manager in Waetz . He also took over the Haakhof as administrator in 1908 and became its owner in 1908; the Haakhof remained in the possession of the Grünewaldts until 1918. After the expropriation of property, Otto Moritz lived on a small plot of land at Haakhof from 1922 , and from 1926 worked as a writer in Hapsal.

Origin and family

Otto Moritz came from the German-Baltic noble family Grünewaldt . His father was the physician and Russian Real Councilor of State Johann Georg von Grünewaldt (1830-1910), who was married to Countess Beate Stenbock . In 1891 Otto Moritz married Helene von Maydell (* 1864). Her descendants were:
