The Infantry Division Denecke was a German Infantry Division of the Army in World War II in the military district XI .

Division history

Division No. 471

The. 471 Division No. was the end of September 1942 in Hannover (military district XI) as replacement troops for by Belgium laid 171st Reserve Division and the 191st Reserve Division set up. At the beginning of 1945 it was converted into an infantry division.

471st Replacement Division

The 471st Replacement Division was set up in January 1945 as a Gneisenau unit and replacement force of Division No. 471 under the leadership of Lieutenant General Erich Denecke , former commander of the 246th Infantry Division and Division No. 471. During its deployment, the division was subordinate to the Vistula Army Group .

The division was relocated to Schneidemühl , but suffered losses during the relocation due to Russian troops who had already advanced far. It was moved to Stargard and there the incorporation of further dispersed troops.

Denecke Infantry Division

As a result of the new order, the unit was deployed in Pomerania , especially in the Pyritz area south-east of Stettin , as well as in the battles around the Madü and Plön lakes. The division operating in Pomerania was also known as the Denecke Infantry Division . Until mid-February 1945 she secured Greifenhagen in the bridgehead , then she returned to Pyritz. On March 1, 1945, the units of the division were incorporated into the 549th Volks-Grenadier-Division . For this purpose, the Grenadier Replacement Regiment 561, the Artillery Replacement Regiment 13, the Pioneer Replacement Battalion 4 and the Construction Pioneer Replacement and Training Department 11 were sent to the 3rd Panzer Army on the Oder . The remaining units moved to the 1st Parachute Army on the western front . With the conquest of Hanover by the Allies in April 1945, the division was formally dissolved.
